We adopted our first Greyhound, Tri Harder, a beautiful large white male, and were jokingly told that in time we would want another. After 18 months we learned of a large male, Monkey, who was returned to the BGA because of health problems and he didn't fit in his home any more. We felt that we had the means and desire to try a second dog. What a great decision, right away Monkey fit in our family wonderfully with Tri's guidance and our love he is a very healthy and happy part of our world.
We decided to go on vacation and asked a "Foster" Mom if she could baby-sit Tri & Monkey for the weekend. Upon dropping our dogs off we saw she had an over abundance of dogs in her care that had been returned and were waiting for placement in new homes. We offered to help by taking a little female named Bella off her hands until she found a new home. Bella has an angels face and a devils sense of adventure and brought many laughs to our home. She fit in with our passive Tri & Monkey easily and quickly earned her title of "Princess Bella".
Unfortunately our first love Tri developed cancer, which manifested very fast and we were forced to make a heart breaking, but humane decision to put him to sleep to end his pain and suffering. After a tearful burial, we both decided that Bella was never going to another home. We feel all animals need a playmate and knew we could never leave Monkey alone. Both dogs missed Tri, they were staring out the doors and windows waiting for him to come home. It truly hit us how this breed of dogs truly needs each other's company.
We know have 3 Greyhounds in our family. Twiggy, Bella's adopted sister had also been returned to the BGA and was looking for a new home. Long story short - we love these homeless mis-fits because they all seem to "fit" us!
